Botanical Installation

All of the images in the garden series begin with plants that I have grown from seed, bulb, or propagated cutting.Because I come from a long line of horticulturalists, gardeners, and farmers, I am drawing from family history here. At the time of bloom, I photograph each plant with black and white film, then develop and print the images. Although all of the prints are hand colored, in each installation I use a minimal amount of color in order to downplay the decorative quality of the floral image. The photographs are delicately cut out, attached to posts and mounted on the wall at various depths. While deconstructing the format of a traditional 2D photograph, the work is presented as colorized objects devoid of their natural environment.
